adventures with louie, and a recipe: slow cooker chicken and sausage jambalaya
I woke this morning to the tinkling of a jingle bell, the sound of a cat toy being batted around. It was still dark out, well before 6 am, and I had no interest in getting up yet. The tinkling was coming from our bedroom door, then from near my side of the bed, then from across the room. I rolled over and covered my head with the pillow, remembering the reason for the jingle bell.
It was Louie.
Louie is the cat we adopted last summer as a kitten. He, his litter mates, and their mother were victims of the flooding that happened in northern Florida last June after Tropical Storm Debby. The kids and I saw Louie at a cat adoption event held at a local pet store, and after cuddling with him in the store, we knew he was destined to join our family.
I hope Louie will be okay outdoors…and the birds as well.
Yes, me too. Thanks, Mom!
Good luck with Louie. I know a little something about a cat that has decided the litter box isn’t always the most convenient of places. Oy! Your jambalaya looks yummy and I love that it’s made in the crock pot! *print*
I’m in love with my crockpot, Renee. It’s just SUCH a lifesaver for a busy family.
Oh we know this story too well. Gabby had such a fit with her box that we seriously had to consider options of finding her a new home. Years of patience and every trick in the book later she’s been accident free for 2 years. Every cat is different, but I do highly recommend the Rescue Remedy stress drops. We place a few on her treats prior to high anxiety situations like leaving for more than a few hours at a time and before company comes over. We also purchased a second litter box even though we only had one cat and a tiny apartment. It’s been upgraded to a self cleaning and everyone couldn’t be happier. I wish you the best of luck, it’s such a frustrating situation and even more so when they’re so darn cute.
I haven’t heard of the Rescue Remedy drops – thanks for that tip, Kimberly. I’ll look for those. We’re willing to try anything!
We have had an unusually warm fall here in the North East and I have been pretty much clinging to all of my favorite summer recipes, not wanting to let go of another summer season that seemed so short. Alas and alack the weather has started to turn along with the leaves and I have been thinking about a good recipe to kick-start one- pot and/or crock pot meals. This one looks like a winner and without the shrimp, which hubby is allergic to! Thank you, Merry Jennifer ,and good luck with Louie!
